What is the AVA Assessment?

For over 50 years, the Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) has given organizations clear and practical tools to select, motivate and retain people while aligning them with the organization's business objectives.

Developed from the theories and research of prominent psychologists, the AVA predicts work-related behaviors, decision-making approaches, flexibility under various environmental conditions and other important aspects of behavior.

The AVA is job-related, comprehensive, dynamic, highly accurate, and easy to administer. It can be used throughout an organization with a variety of jobs and at any stage of an individual's career for:

  • Selection
  • Development
  • Motivation
  • Organizational Alignment
  • Retention

The AVA system includes several behavioral-assessment instruments designed to evaluate individuals jobs, and performance. They may be combined or used individually.

The most used instruments in the AVA system are the Managing For Excellence Report and the Job Activity Rating, which complement each other to provide an overall picture of an employee's behavioral suitability for a position. The Dynamic Jar Report combines data from both to map the fit between person and position.

How is AVA Different from Other Assessments?

  • Job Related. AVA was developed specifically to address workplace needs. It assesses behaviors, job activities and the fit between them. The Job Activity Rating (JAR) assesses the work environment in which a job is performed, identifying strong candidates for success and providing managers with a meaningful framework for improving performance and productivity.
  • Dynamic. AVA reveals how individuals will act in a variety of situations: person to person, person to job, job to job.
  • Comprehensive. AVA's free-response format provides insights into the full range of predictable behaviors, including the extent of a behavioral tendency, an individual's commitment to a behavioral style, his / her flexibility in the face of situational challenges, and the relationship of behavioral tendencies to one another.
  • Highly accurate and reliable. Ongoing research and development assure that AVA results are valid across a wide range of industries, job descriptions and employment levels.
