The performance appraisal discussion should be one of the most important conversations that occurs between supervisor and employee. All too often, the result is frustration and de-motivation Participants in this interactive learning session will gain an understanding of how to conduct performance appraisals that will benefit the employee, the supervisor and the organization..

 

The curriculum includes: 

  1. Setting performance standards and expectations and communicating them to employees.
  2. Applying the rating scale used in the performance appraisal form and interpreting rating factors to specific, job related performance issues.
  3. Conducting effective performance appraisal discussions:
    a. How to prepare for the review.
    b. Establishing a positive environment for the discussion.
    c. Managing the interview process.
  4. Dealing with unsatisfactory performance in ways that are constructive.
  5. Creating development plans to improve performance.
  6. Legal issues that affect performance appraisals.
